Sand doesn't melt anything. It gives traction where salt won't work fast enough, like extreme cold, steep drives, gravel lots and ramps. Treated sand (sand with a deicer mixed in) stays loose in the pile and adds some melting. Sold in bulk by the ton.

Every lot, sidewalk and loading dock you treat is somebody's walk to work, a delivery driver's path, a patient's ride to the clinic door. Ice control protects people first and property second. It's also how contractors and owners show they took reasonable care when a slip-and-fall claim shows up months later.
